Proof is in the Process: Truth about Rotomolding
As you continue to explore your hot tubbing options, you’ve most likely discovered that not all hot tubs are created equal. There are lots of options available to you: number of jets, seating configuration, features, weight, depth, etc. The list is pretty comprehensive. Before you dive into every possible feature and spec on the market, you should start at the beginning.
That seems like a great place to start, but where is the beginning, you may ask? The shell of the hot tub itself.
Freeflow Spas® are rotationally molded, or, "rotomolded" as it’s more commonly referred. This describes the manufacturing process by which polyethylene resin (powdered plastic) is poured into a hot tub mold. The mold is then heated and spun, allowing the resin to melt and coat the inside of the mold.
The finished product is a unibody hot tub where the shell and cabinet are all one piece.
But what does this mean to you? It’s simple. The benefits of rotomolding are:
- Superior strength and durability
- No extra internal structure or fiberglass backing required
- Reduced material and labor costs (over traditional acrylic hot tubs that use thermoforming manufacturing)
In short: cost savings!
Rotomolded tubs are lighter weight than an acrylic spa meaning you can move them across your backyard or the country by yourself with ease. Since they are also very durable you don’t have to worry about damaging the hot tub while moving, assuming you take the necessary precautions.
Rotomolded tubs are less likely to bend, break, chip, or dent than an acrylic spa, so they last longer with less wear and tear or need for repairs to the body of the spa.
Both styles of spa have their benefits, too. Acrylic spas and rotomolded hot tubs offer a relaxing, tension-releasing hot tubbing experience. Both come with high quality components and a variety of feature options to meet your specific hydrotherapy needs.
It all comes down to price and personal preference.
